Bloomberg’s Gurman: Apple Silicon Mac Pro Won’t Make Appearance at WWDC, Mac Studio Refresh Likely Delayed Until M3 Release

The Apple silicon-powered Mac Pro will not be unveiled at WWDC 2023, says Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.

Gurman shared this information on the latest episode of  The MacRumors Show. Gurman said that while he expects to see the Mac Pro launch sometime this year, it will likely be sometime after WWDC in June. The machine has been widely expected to debut soon,

He added mentioned that the next-generation Mac Studio will likely not contain M2-series chips. Instead, Apple is postponing a refresh of the device until the M3 generation of chips is ready to avoid cannibalizing the new Mac Pro.

Gurman also noted that the new 15-inch MacBook Air, which will be powered by an M2 chip, was originally supposed to launch last year. This means that the 13-inch ‌MacBook Air‌ could be placed on a separate chip upgrade cycle from the 15-inch model. The 13-inch model could potentially receive the ‌M3‌ chip well ahead of the larger laptop. We’ll have to wait and see how Apple plans to handle the chip upgrade cycle of the two MacBook Air models in the long term.

Gurman also discussed Apple’s upcoming mixed-reality headset, saying he now expects the “in-air typing” text input method to be present on Apple’s mixed-reality headset when it launches, despite it being a “finicky” experience. He added that the device’s expected two-hour battery life is likely to remain the same through the following generations of the mixed-reality headset. We’ve seen this over the years with the two standard Apple Watch model sizes, which have seen no battery life improvements since their initial 2014 release.
