Future Apple Watch Update to Allow Pairing With Multiple Apple Devices, Says Leaker

Apple is working on software updates that will allow users to pair their Apple Watch with multiple Apple devices, such as a Mac or iPad, in addition to the current iPhone pairing, says a new rumor being floated by @analyst941 on Twitter.

Presently, the Apple Watch can only be paired to an iPhone and a single iPhone at that. On the flip side, it is possible to pair multiple Apple Watch devices with a single iPhone.

An Apple Watch currently can offer limited benefits with an iPad or Mac. Once the Apple Watch is paired to an iPhone, it can be used with a Mac to unlock their computer, authenticate passwords and apps, and authenticate Apple Pay transactions. An Apple Watch can also be used with an iPad logged into the same Apple ID to follow Apple Fitness+ workout routines on the iPad’s display.

However, change is on the way if @analyst941’s claims pan out. The Twitter account says Apple is working on changes to the pairing and sync process to allow the wearable to sync with multiple devices.

The leaker did not provide the exact information on how this process will work, but syncing via iCloud could be one way to do it, much like AirPods use your iCloud account to pair across all of your Apple devices.

@analyst941 says they don’t know if the change will come this year with the release of watchOS 10, iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS 14, or if the new feature will be delayed until 2024.

This Twitter leaker had provided accurate information about upcoming products in the past, as the source was correct about the iPhone 14 Pro’s Dynamic Island. Still, at this stage of the game you should take this rumor with a grain of your favorite salt-free seasoning, and wait to see what Apple has to show us at WWDC 2023 in June.
