Apple’s “iPhone 17 Pro,” which is expected to debut in 2025, will be the first to boast under-panel Face ID technology, says display analyst Ross Young.
Young shared an updated roadmap on Twitter earlier today, saying the under-display Face ID technology will use a circular cutout for the front-facing camera. Apple is expected to use that setup until 2027’s “Pro” iPhone models, which will move the camera under the display to provide a true “all screen” appearance.
Young’s initially shared a roadmap in May 2022, saying he expected 2024’s iPhone 16 Pro models to be the first to feature under-panel Face ID technology. Last month, Young amended his target date, saying this one-year delay was due to “sensor issues.”
This means that the two display cutouts that currently make up the Dynamic Island will apparently be a “feature” through three straight “Pro” iPhone generations.
Young also predicted that standard iPhone 17 model displays will boast ProMotion, a feature that is currently only available on Apple’s high-end devices.
