Writers Guild of America Strike Stalls Second Season Production of Apple TV+’s ‘Loot’

The Writers Guild of America strike in Hollywood has shut down production of several TV shows and movies, and Apple TV+ series are no exception. The picketing has shut down the second season production of the Apple TV+ workplace comedy “Loot.”

There are approximately 12,000 Writers Guild of America members on picket lines outside of major studios.

“Loot” production shut down on Friday and picketers showed up at the show’s Bel-Air production location.

A source close to production told The Hollywood Reporter that the picketing disrupted production, with star and executive producer Maya Rudolph reportedly retreating to her trailer while strike members were in attendance.

“Loot,” which was renewed for a second season in July 2022, stars Rudolph as billionaire Molly Novak, whose seemingly perfect life is upended after her husband leaves her with nothing but 87 billion dollars. (I think we can all understand her pain.)

Created by Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard, Rudolph also writes for the show.

The WGA says it is seeking wage increases, additional compensation for streaming, viewership transparency, and protections against the burgeoning practice of mini-rooms and the use of artificial intelligence.

After a failure to reach an agreement by a May 1 deadline, striking began on May 2.
