Apple Seeds Third Beta of tvOS 17 to Developers for Testing

Apple on Wednesday seeded the third beta of its upcoming tvOS 17 beta to developers for testing. The update comes two weeks following the second beta.

The tvOS 17 beta is compatible with the Apple TV 4K (1st and 2nd generation) and the ‌Apple TV‌ HD. The new beta can be downloaded to a compatible Apple TV that has the proper profile installed, which can be done by downloading it onto the ‌Apple TV‌ using Xcode.

The update brings FaceTime to the Apple TV 4K, a new Control Center, and a feature that allows you to use your iPhone to locate a misplaced Siri Remote.

The tvOS 17 Control Center now displays system status, including the time and active profile, and expands to include other helpful details based on a user’s personal activity.

Users will now be able to launch the Apple TV remote inside Control Center on their iPhone to find their Siri Remote (2nd generation or later). As users get closer to the remote, an onscreen circle grows in size to guide their movement.

As usual, MacTrast and Apple both warn users to not install any betas on their daily driver Apple TV, especially early betas of new operating systems. Instead, only install betas on a device set aside for testing purposes.
