Kuo: iPhone 15 Max Pro’s 5x Optical Zoom Lense to Expand to Both iPhone 16 Pro Handsets

A tetraprism lens with up to 5x optical zoom is currently an iPhone 15 Pro Max exclusive. However, the feature will expand to both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max next year, says Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Kuo’s claim came via a Medium post earlier today, which was mostly focused on Apple’s camera-related iPhone 15 Pro Max production challenges.

The tetraprism lens system boasts a “folded” design that allows it to fit inside Apple’s largest smartphone, delivering up to 5x optical zoom and up to 25x digital zoom. Apple’s smaller iPhone 15 Pro camera is still limited to up to 3x optical zoom, as were the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

We’ve seen previous rumors that the iPhone 16 Pro will boast a larger 6.3-inch display, compared to the 6.1-inch screen on the iPhone 15 Pro. As the change would increase the overall size of the device, there will be more space in the iPhone 16 Pro, allowing for a tetraprism lens.
