Ming-Chi Kuo: M3 MacBooks Unlikely to Launch in 2023

Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo today said Apple is unlikely to release any M3-powered MacBook models this year.

“It seems that Apple will not launch new MacBook models (equipped with M3 series processors) before the end of this year,” Kuo wrote on X, the social network formerly known as Twitter.

Earlier this year, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman said Apple’s first M3-powered Macs could debut as early as October. Gurman said his sources told him that an October event would follow Apple’s iPhone 15 series announcement in September. He said that Apple was going to focus on new Macs with M3 chips.

The as-yet-unannounced M3 chip is expected to be fabricated using chipmaking partner TSMC’s 3nm process, which will result in significant performance and power efficiency improvements over the 5nm-based M2 chip Apple currently uses. TSMC kicked off mass production of 3nm chips in late December 2022.
