One of the biggest complaints users had about Meta’s Threads app when it launched in July was that it was impossible to delete your Threads account without also giving up your Instagram account.
Until Monday, the only way to shut down your Threads profile was to “temporarily” deactivate it. Happily for users, Instagram head Adam Mosseri on Monday posted that the company was finally providing a fix for the issue. Meta is now rolling out a way to delete or deactivate a Threads profile while leaving the connected Instagram account active.
Per Mosseri’s instructions, here’s how to delete your Threads profile while keeping your Instagram account:
- In the Threads app, tap the profile icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Tap the two-line menu icon in the top right of your profile.
- Tap Account, then tap Delete or Deactivate Profile.
- Tap Delete profile, then confirm your choice.
If you don’t see the option, the rollout hasn’t rolled out to you just yet, but it shouldn’t be long before it appears, so keep an eye on it.
According to Mosseri, Threads is also rolling out a way for users to prevent their Threads posts from appearing on Facebook and Instagram.
