Bloomberg’s Gurman: iPhone 16 to Boast Capture Button for Taking Video

Bloomberg’s Gurman: iPhone 16 to Boast Capture Button for Taking Video

A new button is planned for all four models of next year’s iPhone 16 lineup. We’ve long known the name of the button (the Capture Button) and where it will likely reside on the device, but we haven’t known exactly the function the button will trigger.

Now comes word, via Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, that the Capture Button will be able to record video. Gurman’s comments come in this week’s Power On newsletter, where he says the upcoming iPhone 16 models will boast a “new dedicated button for taking video.” Seems logical, considering the name of the button.

The Capture Button will be located on the lower right-hand side of the ‌iPhone 16‌. The button will replace the mmWave antenna on U.S. iPhone models and the mmWave antenna will be relocated to the left side of the device positioned below the volume and Action buttons. Non-U.S. models do not have a mmWave antenna.

The capacitive button will have haptic feedback and is expected to include a force sensor that can recognize pressure. It could be that holding it down will launch into the camera and allow video recording to start. Various pressure levels could also open up the camera for a photo or a video, but nothing is for sure at this point.

Since the iPhone 16 isn’t due to be unveiled until next September, plenty of things could change between now and then, so stay tuned.
