Apple Experimenting With Slim Camera Bump Design for iPhone 16

Apple always takes pains to improve the camera on the new iPhone each year, and the upcoming iPhone 16 won’t be any different, as it is working on a new slim camera bump design for the new base model iPhone.

Apple’s latest prototype boasts a vertical camera arrangement with a pill-shaped raised surface. As noted by MacRumors, the camera bump houses two separate camera rings for the Wide and Ultrawide cameras.

Schematics recently shared by Majin Bu on the social media site formerly known as Twitter (as seen above). The latest design appears to draw inspiration from older iPhone designs, including the iPhone X, which also boasted a pill-shaped camera with a slim bump design.

Apple is also expected to bring Spatial Video recording to the base model iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus handsets.

In addition to the new camera bump design, more recent prototypes of the handset include slight modifications to the Action Button and Capture Button. The recent prototypes also feature a smaller Action Button, much like the one used on the iPhone 15 Pro.

Keep in mind that all of this information is drawn from pre-production info, and the final design could be different. Apple creates several designs and prototypes during the iPhone design process, and this year’s iPhone 16 lineup is no different.
