Apple Reinstates Epic Games Developer Account, Epic Plans Alternative App Marketplace in EU

Apple has reinstated Epic Games developer account, and the Fortnite developer has announced plans to bring the Epic Games‌ Store to iOS in the European Union. Epic will launch its store on iOS in the EU sometime during 2024, and it will allow Epic to once again offer Fortnite on iOS.

Update on Epic’s return to iOS in Europe: Developer account secured!

We’ve received our Apple Developer Account and will start developing the Epic Games Store on iOS soon thanks to the new Digital Markets Act. We plan to launch in 2024. Epic Games Sweden AB will operate the mobile Epic Games Store and Fortnite in Europe, with the Store team leading development.

Epic Games Sweden has 3 studios and 60+ employees.

Fortnite was removed from the iOS App Store in 2020, which kicked off the Epic Games v. Apple legal feud, which has been unavailable in the App Store since then. The game is still available on iPhones and iPads, via Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce NOW through the Safari browser.

Epic implementing its ‌Games‌ Store on iOS does not end the animosity between Epic and Apple, as Epic says it plans to continue to “argue to the courts and regulators that Apple is breaking the law.”
