If you forget the passcode for your Apple Vision Pro, there is a visit to an Apple Store in your future, as you’ll need to take it to an Apple retail location to have it reset, reports Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman. Gurman says there is no on-device way to reset a Vision Pro password.
The Vision Pro requests a six-digit passcode during setup, requiring it to be entered twice. Customers can also opt to use a shorter or a longer passcode, much like they can on an iPhone or iPad. While Optic ID can be used to unlock the device in place of a passcode, the passcode is still required after a restart or in certain other situations.
Customers who forgot their Vision Pro passcode have been informed by Apple that they will need to visit an Apple Store to get it reset or ship it to Apple if the user doesn’t have a nearby store. Like Apple’s other devices, the incorrect passcode can only be entered a certain number of times before the device is locked. Removing the passcode requires a total reset of the Vision Pro.
While Apple’s iPhone and iPad have similar security requirements, they can be erased at home with the use of a Mac or PC. While there is an “erase content” setting on the Vision Pro, it can only be done via the Settings app.
It is believed that Vision Pro owners that spring for the $300 Developer Strap will be able to use their Mac to wipe the device, but most users will be unable to purchase the strap, as it is limited to registered developers in the United States.
