HomePod Boasting ‘iPad-Like Display’ Could Hit Shelves in 2025 at Earliest

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman says Apple is currently developing a new HomePod speaker boasting an “iPad-like display” but we likely won’t see such a device hit shelves until 2025, should Apple decide to go to production. Gurman’s comments come in his most recent Power On newsletter.

But I am told Apple that continues to pursue this idea and has begun early work on it with overseas suppliers, including China’s BYD, which makes some iPad models. If Apple finally moves forward with the product, a launch wouldn’t come until 2025 at the earliest. Work on the device is being led by Matt Costello and Brian Lynch, two key executives in the company’s hardware group.

However, Gurman said the company has yet to make “enough headway” on the device for him to consider a launch to be imminent.

Gurman says that Apple has also explored a device that combines an Apple TV, HomePod, and FaceTime camera, along with iPad-like smart displays. The device could be magnetically attached to a wall. He said Apple has been “indecisive” about its smart home product ideas for years.

Apple currently offers a full-sized HomePod (which was released in 2023 after Apple had discontinued a similar speaker back in 2021) and a smaller HomePod mini speaker, which has not seen any significant hardware updates since its 2020 launch.
