Apple Rumored to Be Readying New Apple Pencil for Launch This Month

Apple will announce a new Apple Pencil model later this month, according to a new rumor posted on a Chinese social media website.

Weibo user “Instant Digital” posted the information, noting that it has been more than five years since Apple last refreshed the second-generation ‌Apple Pencil‌ this month. This jibes with a claim by Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who said that new Apple Pencils are on the way “in the next several weeks.”

While there is little information on what an updated Apple Pencil’s features might look like, we have seen rumors of a shorter design sporting a glossy finish, color sampling features, and magnetically interchangeable tips.

Apple is widely expected to launch new iPad Pro models sporting OLED displays later this month, so a revamped Apple Pencil would make sense. We are also expecting to see a revamped Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro, so we may see both accessories released alongside each other.

While Instant Digital has a somewhat spotty track record when it comes to information about Apple’s upcoming devices and accessories, it has scored in the past. The account was the first to report about Apple’s yellow iPhone 14 release last spring, Spatial Video capture on the iPhone 15 Pro, and the Apple Watch Series 9’s minor hardware update. However, they have also struck out when it comes to several new iOS 17 features, as well as a predicted October 2023 release of a new iPad Air, which never made the scene.

That said, it makes sense to release a new Apple Pencil at this time, see we can likely expect to see an announcement this month.
