New iPad Pro Rumored to Feature Matte Screen Option & Thinner Bezels

We expect to see Apple unveil its next-generation iPad Pro models in the next month or so and rumors about what we can expect to see featurewise from the new tablets continue to roll in.

Weibo leaker known as “Instant Digital” claims a new matte display option will be available in addition to the traditional glossy finish used today on the iPad Pro. The leaker also claims the upcoming tablet will sport thinner screen bezels compared to previous models.

Instant Digital claims the new display option features -4° to +29° of haze and could offer a type of blue-light blocking technology.

The leaker did not say whether the matte display option would use the same “nano-texture” glass as the Pro Display XDR and Studio Display. The nano-texture glass has a matte finish designed to scatter light to minimize glare.

Nano-texture glass doesn’t offer the same drawbacks as matte screen protectors, which are a popular option for the iPad. Instead of making the images on the screen slightly duller and hazier like a screen protector, nano-texture glass boasts an etched surface that aids in preserving image quality.

One drawback to nano-texture glass is that it has a textured surface that tends to hold on to debris and oil. Apple tells users to clean the displays using a soft, non-abrasive polishing cloth.

The leaker could not confirm whether the nano-texture glass will also be offered on the iPad Air.

Instant Digital also claims that the new iPad Pros will boast thinner screen bezels than previous models.

The leaker claims the new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models will have 7.12mm and 7.08mm bezels, respectively. If the claim is accurate, the new tablets would have bezels approximately 10 to 15% thinner than previous Pro models.

Instant Digital has a mixed track record in terms of revealing accurate information about Apple’s plans, so we’ll need to see what happens.

We’re expecting to see several new and updated features when the new iPad Pros debut, including an M3 chip, a thinner profile, a landscape front camera, a revamped rear camera, and possibly MagSafe charging. A revamped Magic Keyboard and an updated Apple Pencil are expected to debut alongside the new iPad Pro models.
