Apple to Invest $250M+ to Expand AI Roles at Its Singapore Campus

Apple announced on Thursday that it is investing over $250 million for improvements to its Singapore Ang Mo Kio campus, to provide more room for growth, as well as new roles in artificial intelligence and other key functions.

Apple opened its first facility in Singapore in 1981 with 72 employees focused on support for the Apple II, since then, the team has grown to more than 3,600 contributing to every part of the company. Today, Singapore serves as a central operations center for Apple in the region, and is a hub for critical roles in software, hardware, services, and support. Apple also has three retail locations in Singapore.

“Singapore is truly a one-of-a-kind place, and we are proud of the connection we’ve built with this dynamic community of creators, learners, and dreamers,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “With our growing campus, Apple is writing a new chapter in our history here. Our Singapore teams have played an important role in enriching the lives of our customers — and we can’t wait for many more decades of innovation to come.”

Construction of the expansion of Apple’s Singapore campus will begin later this year. Two buildings that were acquired in 2022, located adjacent to the company’s existing offices, will undergo a major upgrade. Apple aims to integrate the properties into a unified campus. Apple has upgraded and expanded the campus several times over the last decade, including a 50% expansion of its hardware technologies center since 2019.

The newly expanded Singapore campus will be powered 100% by renewable energy sources and Apple is aiming to receive LEED Gold certification. Apple’s corporate operations have been carbon neutral since 2020.

Apple’s press release says it supports 60,000+ jobs in Singapore, either directly through employment, through its partners in the supply chain, or the iOS app economy.
