Google Pixel 8’s AI Photo Editing Feature Coming to iPhones Soon

Google Pixel 8’s AI Photo Editing Feature Coming to iPhones Soon

Starting in May, Google will make its AI-powered photo editing feature available to iOS Google Photos users, the company has announced. The tool will become available to all users of Google Photos starting May 15.

Starting on May 15, many of our AI-powered editing tools — like Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur and Portrait light — will be available to anyone using Google Photos, no subscription required. You’ll also be able to access these features on more devices, including Pixel tablets.

Magic Editor uses generative AI to perform complicated photo edits, including filling in gaps in a photo, repositioning subjects, and additional foreground/background adjustments. The edits are similar to those offered by professional editing tools like Photoshop, except Magic Editor achieves its results via AI

The Magic Editor tool debuted as one of the headline AI features on the company’s flagship Google Pixel 8 phone when it launched six months ago, and has since been exclusive to Google Pixel 8 owners and Google One subscribers.

Google Photos for iOS and Android will offer 10 Magic Editor saves per month. To access more saves than that, users will need to buy a Premium Google One plan, which starts at 2TB of storage for $10 per month or $100 annually.

In addition to Magic Editor, Google is bringing several more editing tools to Google Photos:

Also beginning May 15, 2024, we’re making other editing features in Google Photos more widely available, at no cost:
  • Magic Eraser
  • Unblur
  • Sky suggestions
  • Color pop
  • HDR effect for photos & videos
  • Portrait blur
  • Portrait light
    • Add light/Balance light features in the Portrait light tool
  • Cinematic photos
  • Styles in collage editor
  • Video effects
These features, including Magic Editor, will roll out over the coming months to devices which meet the minimum requirements.

To use the AI features, Apple devices must be running iOS 15 or later. Google Photos is available as a free download for iPhone and iPad available on the App Store.
