New iPad Models Spotted in Bureau of Indian Standards Regulatory Database

Two new iPad models have been spotted in Indian regulatory filings. New iPad Air and iPad Pro models are rumored to be on the way in the near future.

The listings, spotted by 91Mobiles, appeared in the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) database with the model numbers A2836 and A2837. These model numbers do not match any existing Apple devices.

The database entries do not make it clear whether the new devices are iPad Air or iPad Pro models, but both lineups are expected to receive a refresh as soon as May. We have seen plenty of rumors of new iPads being on the way, and the regulatory filing in India appears to confirm those expectations.

We’re expecting to see several new and updated features when the new iPad Pros debut, including an M3 chip, a thinner profile, a landscape front camera, a revamped rear camera, and possibly MagSafe charging. A revamped Magic Keyboard and an updated Apple Pencil are expected to debut alongside the new iPad Pro models.

As for the iPad Air, many expect Apple to introduce a 12.9-inch model for the first time.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple’s suppliers are now ramping up production of the new iPads. Although Apple initially planned to launch the iPads in March or early April, Gurman says the company is working to “finish software for the new devices.” Gurman added the OLED iPad Pro models also require “complex new manufacturing techniques,” contributing to the delay.
