Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro Max will be thicker than the current generation iPhone 16 Pro Max, claims the Chinese leaker known as Ice Universe.
The leaker says Apple has increased the depth of the iPhone 17 Pro Max to 8.725mm, up from 8.25mm on the iPhone 16 Pro Max, a 0.475mm difference in thickness. The increase in thickness “surely means a larger battery,” according to the leaker.
This is the first time we’ve heard anything about increased battery life for the iPhone 17 Pro Max or a change in dimensions, so if this leak pans out, this is new information.
The Chinese leaker also posted to their Weibo account that the iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro Max have identical body length, width, screen size, and bezels. “The only difference is the thickness,” added the leaker. “The iPhone 17 Air is 5.5mm thick, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max is 8.725mm thick.”
So far, we’ve seen rumors saying iPhone 17 Pro models will sport a large rectangular camera bump with rounded corners, though Apple will stand pat with the current triangular arrangement for the rear camera lenses. The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are also rumored to have an aluminum frame, compared to the titanium frame used for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro models. The back side of the devices are also said to sports new “part-aluminum, part-glass” design.
