New MacBook Air and Mac Studio Will Need Software Update Right Out of the Box

New MacBook Air and Mac Studio Will Need Software Update Right Out of the Box

Buyers of Apple’s new MacBook Air and Mac Studio will receive their new machines a bit later this week, and they’ll need to install a day one software update for macOS Sequoia right out of the box.

As noted by MacRumors, the M4 ‌MacBook Air‌ and M4 Max and M3 Ultra ‌Mac Studio‌ models will have older versions of macOS installed. The ‌MacBook Air‌ models reportedly ship with ‌macOS Sequoia‌ 15.2 installed, while the ‌Mac Studio‌ models have ‌macOS Sequoia‌ 15.3 on them.

Apple released the latest version of macOS Sequoia (15.3.1) back on February 10, meaning the Mac Studio‌ and ‌MacBook Air‌ were boxed up for launch before that update was released. While macOS 15.3.1 is not yet available for the new machines, Apple will likely release a new 24D2072 update for the upcoming Macs just ahead of their launch date.

Apple opened pre-orders for the M4 ‌MacBook Air‌, M4 Max ‌Mac Studio‌, and M3 Ultra ‌Mac Studio‌ last week, and the first pre-orders are set to begin delivery to customers on Wednesday, March 12.
