Popular graphics benchmarking suite 3DMark has been launched natively on macOS, providing a reliable way for Mac users to test their computer’s gaming performance.
The benchmarking suite had previously only been vailable for Windows on the desktop, although iOS and Android versions are also available.
The new macOS version offers four benchmarking tests: Wild Life Extreme, Solar Bay, Steel Nomad Light, and Steel Nomadwhich had previously been exclusive exclusive to Windows. All tests run natively using Apple’s Metal API and produce results comparable across Windows, iOS, and Android platforms.
As with Windows, owners of 3DMark will gain access to additional features:
Since UL Solutions launched 3DMark Steel Nomad Light, they found that 1/6 of all iOS app submissions were from macOS devices. Unfortunately, running an iOS application on a macOS device can negatively affect scores on some benchmarks, especially when run on some more powerful Macs.
Mac users can purchase 3DMark for macOS from Steam. 3DMark for macOS will be coming soon to the Epic Games Store or directly from UL solutions at 3DMark.com
Users that already own 3DMark will automatically get 3DMark for macOS as well. Likewise, any future purchase of 3DMark or a 3DMark upgrade will also include both Windows and macOS versions of any included benchmarks, where supported.
A demo version of 3DMark for macOS is now also available through Steam. This includes the Steel Nomad, Steel Nomad Light, Solar Bay and Wild Life Extreme Benchmarks.
