YouTube’s iOS app has been updated to version 20.22.1, which now requires iOS 16 or later to install and run. This means that owners of several older iPhone models can no longer use the app.
The affected devices are older models that can not be upgraded iOS 16. This includes the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and the first-generation iPhone SE. The 7th-generation iPod touch has also lost the ability to run the app.
The update also spoils the fun for owners of older iPad models unable to run iPadOS 16 or later. That means support has been dropped for the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4.
iPhone and iPad users who don’t wish to update their devices can still view YouTube videos through their web browser by visiting m.youtube.com. However, the website doesn’t offer some of the native app’s functionality.
