MacBook Pro Boasting OLED Display Still Expected to Debut in 2026

The first MacBook Pro models boasting OLED displays are on-track to debut next year, says Omdia analyst Linda Lin.

Lin reiterated the 2026 timeframe for the first MacBook Pros with OLED displays in a recent research note. While Lin did not specifically mention the MacBook Pro, most observers expect that Apple will debut OLED displays in its higher-end MacBook Pro models before debuti9ng them in its cheaper MacBook Air models.

OLED technology offers several advantages over LCD tech, including increased brightness, higher contrast ratio with deeper blacks, more precise color reproduction, improved power efficiency for longer battery life, and more.

In addition to the OLED display, the MacBook Pro is also expected to receive its first major redesign in years, including a thinner design. The new MacBook Pro lineup will likely be powered by the M6, M6 Pro, and M6 Max chips, which should be in mass production by then.

It is also possible that the new MacBook Pro models will sport a hole-punch camera at the top of its display, in place of the current notch. Omdia in December 2024 claimed such a change was on the way, although Apple may hve decided otherwise by now.
