Next-Generation Apple Studio Display Release Pushed Back to Early Next Year

Apple is planning to release its first new Mac external monitor since the Apple Studio Display hit stores back in March 2022, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.

In a report on Apple’s product roadmap for 2026, Gurman said the new version, internally code-named J427, “is currently slated for early 2026,” to be released alongside Macs with M5 chips.

Gurman had said in February that Apple was “ramping up” work on a new Studio Display and that it should arrive by 2026, so his new comments narrow down the timeframe a bit.

Gurman doesn’t refer to the new display as a new “Studio Display,” possibly indicating that the new monitor could carry a different moniker.

In March, Gurman reported that Apple was workingon a new monitor that carried the codename of J527. Gurman said it was possible that Apple was working on two different versions of the Studio Display and would decide on which one to actually launch, or it could be a different monitor offering.

While Gurman hasn’t revealed any new features for the Apple Studio Display successor, Ross Young in January said Apple was developing a new 27-inch display with mini-LEDs that could launch in late 2025 or early 2026, which Young said could be a new Studio Display.

Mini-LEDs offer deeper blacks, more detail in shadows, and improved highlights when compared to the LEDs used in the current Studio Display.
