Apple is apparently looking to stem the bleeding when it comes to Apple TV+ cancellations by offering a two month discounted subscription when customers make the move to cancel their subscription.
If you cancel your Apple TV+ subscription, you’ll likely see a pop-up offering a discounted subscription price of $5.99 per month for the next two months, according to MacRumors. Once the two months are up, you’ll again pay the recently increased $12.99 per month subscription charge.
Redditors report seeing Apple offering the discount in the last few days. Apple last week increased the monthly Apple TV+ subscription rate to $12.99 per month in the United States. That means the temporary discounted subscription could be an effort by Apple to stem the bleeding of subscribers cancelling their subscriptions due to the increased costs.
Offering discounted subscriptions to subscribers looking to cancel has long been a tradition among streaming and other services that offer subscriptions. I have personally seen offers like this when attempting to cancel my Sirius/XM subscription, as well as several other subscription-based services.
Apple TV+ subscribers can still score an annual subscription for $99, and Apple has not yet increased the price of its Apple One bundles, which include Apple TV+.
If you are offered the discounted two-month offer when attempting to cancel your Apple TV+ sub, be sure to cancel your subscription again before the two month period expires, as the discounted subscription fee will then end and the price will again jump to $12.99 per month.
The service launched in 2019 at just $4.99 per month, but has now increased three times since then. The price rose to $6.99 per month in 2022, and then to $9.99 per month in 2023.
