New Apple TV Expected Later This Year, Powered by A17 Pro Chip

We’ve seen multiple rumors about a revamped Apple TV that is slated for launch later this year. Now, as reported by MacRumors, information has been found in Apple code that indicates the new Apple set-top box will be powered by an A17 Pro chip.

Until now, multiple rumors indicated the new Apple TV would use an A-series processor, but it hadn’t been clear as to which A-series chip Apple would be using.

However, Apple on Wednesday accidentally included hardware identifiers in software code linking to numerous unannounced products, including the new Apple TV.

The A17 chip debuted in the iPhone 15 Pro lineup and is still used in the seventh generation iPad mini. The A17 Pro offers support for Apple Intelligence, and can run console-quality games with high-end graphics effects.

The current Apple TV 4K is powered by an A15 Bionic chip. That means owners that upgrade to the new Apple TV model will see substantial performance increases.

While little else is known about the upcoming Apple TV model, it has been rumored that it will use an Apple-designed Bluetooth and WiFi chip.

We may see Apple unveil a new Apple TV alongside the iPhone 17 lineup and new Apple Watch lineup in September. Or, Apple could wait until a bit later in the year, positioning the new box for the holiday shopping season.
