Apple’s first OLED MacBook Pro, which is expected to enter mass production in 2026, will boast a touch screen display, according to well-connected Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
In a post on post on X, Kuo says the OLED MacBook Pro will feature a touch panel using on-cell touch technology. On-cell touch technology integrates the touch sensors directly into the display panel’s top layer (the “cell”) rather than requiring a separate, dedicated touch layer.
Kuo says that the shift “appears to reflect Apple’s long-term observation of iPad user behavior, indicating that in certain scenarios, touch controls can enhance both productivity and the overall user experience.”
Kuo believes the more affordable MacBook model, to be powered by an iPhone processor and slated for mass production in 4Q25, will not support a touch panel. He says specifications for its second-generation version, anticipated in 2027, remain under discussion and could include touch support.
Korea’s The Elec has reported that Samsung will provide the displays for Apple’s first OLED MacBook Pro.
It was previously rumored that MacBook Pro models with M5 chips would launch in late 2025. However, in July, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reported that Apple was “considering” whether to push back the release of the next MacBook Pro models with the M5 series of chips until early 2026.
