Tomorrow, Apple will hold its annual iPhone event, where it will unveil the iPhone 17 lineup, and two last minute rumors have surfaced out of China about the iPhone 17 Air and the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The first rumor comes from a Chinese social media platform Weibo account, “Fixed Focus Digital,” which said the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air is unlikely to launch in China, as its lacks a SIM card slot. However, as we reported this morning, regulatory database listings indicated there would in fact be two variants of the iPhone 17 Air, one of which would have a SIM card slot, so we’ll have to wait and see on this one.
A second rumor, from Weibo account “Ice Universe” today reiterated that the iPhone 17 Pro Max will be 8.725mm thick, compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is 8.25mm thick. If the information is accurate, it means the iPhone 17 Pro Max would be approximately 5% thicker than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The account has previously indicated that the handset would be thicker due to a larger battery with a 5,088 mAh capacity.
While both of the Weibo accounts have decent track records, we won’t know whether the rumors are correct until Tuesday’s event.
