Last Minute iPhone and Apple Watch Ultra Rumors Ahead of Today’s ‘Awe Dropping’ Event

Today, at 10 a.m. Pacific Time / 1 p.m. Eastern Time, Apple will hold its “Awe Dropping” iPhone event, where the Cupertino firm is expected to unveil its new iPhone 17 lineup, as well as new Apple Watch and Apple Watch Ultra models. But what can we expect to see later today?

iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman says we’ll see impressive battery life improvements for both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max lineups.

While Gurman did not provides details about the expected battery capacity improvements, we reported on Monday about information found in a Chinese regulatory database that shows the iPhone 17 Pro will boast a 4,252 mAh battery in regions that use an eSIM, an 18.7% increase from the iPhone 16 Pro’s 3,582 mAh capacity.

The larger iPhone 17 Pro Max could also prove to be the first iPhone to boast a larger than 5,000 mAh battery, with a rumored 5,088 mAh battery, an 8.6% increase from the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Gurman says that the larger batteries, combined with the expected power efficiencies of the A19 Pro chip, will result in hours of additional use time between charges.

Gurman also expects the Pro lineup to be offered in two new colors, orange and blue. The new Pros will also offer improved optical zoom, a vapor chamber cooling system to provide improved heat dissipation, and external design changes that include a redesigned rear camera system, that will use three 48-megapixel cameras.

Apple Watch Ultra 3

Gurman also expects Apple to unveil a third-generation Apple Watch Ultra with a larger screen. Gurman did not provide the specific size of the new display, although there have been reports that indicate the new Ultra will boast a resolution of 422 x 514 pixels, an increase from the current 410 x 502 panel on the Ultra 2.

The Ultra 3 is also expected to use the same LPTO3 OLED always-on Retina display used in the Apple Watch Series 10. The Series 10 also debuted a wide-angle OLED display, which boasts a 40% brightness improvement when viewed off-axis. The Ultra 3 is expected to receive the same upgrade.

Satellite messaging capabilities and 5G connectivity are also expected for the Apple Watch Ultra 3.

Apple is expected to unveil its new iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro lineups, as well as new Apple Watch Series 11 models, and the Apple Watch Ultra 3 later today at its “Awe dropping” event. We’ll also see new AirPods Pro 3, and maybe a new M5-powered iPad Pro.

See you later, when we’ll cover all of the action of today’s event.
