New Firmware Update for AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 Brings Support for iOS 26 Features

Apple on Monday released a firmware update for the AirPods Pro 2 and the AirPods 4 wireless earbuds. The firmware brings support for new AirPods features that are included in iOS 26iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26, which were also released to the public on Monday.

The firmware has a build number of 8A356, replacing the current 7E93 firmware.

With Apple’s new software updates, the AirPods Pro 2 and the ‌AirPods 4‌ support better audio quality for phone calls and video calls, and studio-quality audio recording for interviews, podcasts, videos, and more.

AirPods can now be used as a camera remote with the Camera app to take photos or start a video recording, and they can now pause audio if you fall asleep while listening. A “Keep Audio in Headphones” feature ensures that your music won’t switch to your car’s stereo system when you get in your vehicle. Charging reminders are also available for when your AirPods battery is low. Live Translation is supported on the ‌AirPods 4‌ with ANC and the AirPods Pro 2.

All of the above features will also be available with Apple’s new AirPods Pro 3, set to hit store shelves on Friday, September 19.

To update your AirPods Pro 2 or AirPods 4 firmware, make sure they are in the range of your iPhone, iPad, or Mac and place your AirPods in the Charging Case, then connect the charging Case to power The case should be kept closed for at least 30 minutes for the firmware update to complete.
