Apple is planning to launch a new type of iPhone for the next three years, says an Asian source with a decent track record for iPhone rumors. The account “yeux1122” made a blog post on the Korean platform Naver (via MacRumors). The post cites domestic trend and component research companies.
The account says Apple will debut three new iPhone designs through 2028, the “iPhone Fold,” a special 20th anniversary iPhone with a zero bezel, and an “iPhone Flip” that will appeal to fashion-minded consumers (COUGH! Women! COUGH!).
Foldable iPhone 2026
Apple’s first foldable iPhone will debut in 2026, and will feature a book-style design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold. The handset will use a flexible LTPO+ OLED display that unfolds to approximately the same size as an iPad mini.
Apple is reportedly using a structural glass mid-frame to minimize the visible display crease in the fold, while applying a color filter-on-encapsulation layer together with a circular polarizer module to provide improved color purity and light transmission.
The device could also boast under-display Face ID and under-display camera technology.
20th Anniversary iPhone 2027
Apple will reportedly rollout a 20th Anniversary iPhone in 2027, sporting a “zero” bezel around the display. The handset is said to feature a “flat, candybar-like” shape with an OLED display bending around all four edges of the device, wrapping the entire front frame.
Apple will purportedly use a crater-shaped light diffusion layer in the display to even out the brightness to ensure that the screen is uniformly lit across all areas. The device will adopt Under-Display Integrated Recognition, meaning that the Face ID system, front camera, and other sensors will be placed beneath the display surface.
iPhone Flip 2028
Last but not least, in 2028, the company is planning to unveil a compact and lightweight clamshell-style vertical foldable design, with curves on all four edges around the hinge area so the crease blends more naturally into the body. Apple is planning to promote the “Flip” to women as a luxury, fashion-oriented model.
An external display will be able to display notifications, Shortcuts, and capture simple information. Apple is apparently planning to implement a display with a Clear Organic Cathode layer paired with a Color Filter-On-Encapsulation stack.
