Apple has dropped BOE as a supplier for OLED panels for the iPhone 17 Pro, after the Chinese supplier failed to fix reliability issues ahead of mass production of the panels. Apple has given the allocation to Samsung, according to a new report from ZDNet Korea.
BOE was gearing up to supply as many as 10 million OLED panels for iPhone Pro models sold in the Chinese market, after it received initial mass-production approval from Apple early in the third quarter of 2025. Unfortunately for the supplier, it ran into unresolved technical problems affecting panel reliability, yield, and performance, making it unable to receive final approval from Apple.
This was the first time BOE had been contracted to supply LTPO OLED panels to Apple. The panels are designed to offer features like always-on, as well as ProMotion for refresh rates up to 120Hz. While BOE had reportedly resolved the production issues by mid-November, by which time it was too late and Apple’s supply plans had changed.
The report says Samsung Display will now pick up the slack for the iPhone 17 Pro. Samsung’s share of the LTPO OLED panels has risen from a previously expected 80 million OLED panels for the iPhone 17 lineup to approximately 90 million units.
