Apple Teases New Features Coming to Apple Fitness+ ‘January Will be the One to Watch’

The Apple Fitness+ Instagram account on Tuesday teased that “January will be the one to watch,” in 2026. The Instagram post includes a video with several Apple Fitness+ trainers holding up newspapers with teaser headlines about Apple Fitness+, including:

  • What’s Apple Fitness+ Planning for the New Year?
  • Something Big is Coming to Apple Fitness+
  • The Countdown Begins. Apple Fitness+ 2026 is Almost Here
  • 2026 Plans Still Under Wraps-For Now

In November, Mactrast reported that Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicted that Apple Fitness+ could be merged into a broader new Apple Health+ service, which is expected to launch in 2026, meaning Apple Fitness+ would no longer be available as a standalone subscription service.

Gurman also said that Apple Fitness+ is one of the company’s “weakest digital offerings,” with the service suffering from high churn and little revenue. However, the service has a small but loyal fanbase, which would make it difficult for Apple to completely shut down the service without facing vocal backlash.

Gurman has previously reported the Apple Health+ service will also feature an AI-based health coach that offers nutrition planning and medical suggestions.

The Apple Fitness+ teaser could be promoting a new fitness program or promotion to kick off the new year to help people meet their New Year’s resolutions. No matter what the announcement is, it appears to be scheduled for January 1, 2026.

Apple’s “Ring in the New Year” Apple Watch activity challenge kicks off on January 1, so the announcement could possibly be related to that.

In August, Gurman said he expects to see Apple launch a paid Apple Health+ service with two new features in 2026. Gurman said Apple Health+ will add an AI-based health coach that provides nutrition planning and medical suggestions.

Apple is reportedly planning to overhaul the Health app next year, which will include a new Health+ service, featuring an AI assistant. Gurman said that it “could make Apple one of the first major tech companies to gain steam in the health AI chatbot space.”

But let’s focus on a feature I haven’t discussed in a while: a revamped Health app with a new Health+ service. It will include an AI agent that helps users manage their health. If successful, the service could make Apple one of the first major tech companies to gain steam in the health AI chatbot space.
