Apple today seeded the release candidate of its upcoming macOS Tahoe 26.2 update to developers and beta testers for final testing. The update comes two weeks after the third beta release.
Release candidates are usually identical to the final version of the software that will be released to the public provided that no show stopping bugs be found.
The macOS Tahoe 26.1 release candidate can be downloaded by developers and registered public beta testers from the settings app on their Mac.
macOS Tahoe 26.2 adds an Edge Light feature that can be used for video calls. The feature provides a light border around the edges of the Mac’s display, acting like a physical ring light to provide improved lighting.
Edge Light uses the Neural Engine for positioning, so it is optimally placed around your face in the video frame. The light color can be adjusted from warm to cool, and the feature is available in video conferencing apps. The feature is only available on Macs powered by Apple Silicon.
The Reminders app is getting an option to have an alarm go off when a reminder is due, the News app has received some design updates, and new features are available in the Podcasts app.
As usual, MacTrast and Apple both warn users to not install any betas or release candidates on their daily driver Mac. Instead, only install them on a device set aside for testing purposes.
