1Password Adds ‘Second Set of Eyes’ to Help Battle Phishing Attempts

Popular password management app 1Password has announced the launch of a new phishing protection feature designed to “act as a second pair of eyes” to help users think twice before handing their passwords over to scammers.

While 1Password will not autofill a username and password on a website that is spoofing another one, users can get around that roadblock manually retrieving their usernames and passwords.

Now, the 1Password browser extension will provide additional protection, displaying a pop-up warning prompting them to pause and use caution before continuing when a user attempts to paste their username and password into a website. 1Password hopes that the warning will cause users to think about their actions and possibly take a closer look at the website before proceeding.

AI-powered scams are making phishing attacks harder to spot than ever.

In this demo, see how 1Password’s phishing prevention feature helps stop users before they share credentials with fraudulent websites. When a site’s URL doesn’t match a saved login, 1Password won’t autofill. Now, when a user tries to paste their credentials anyway, a warning prompts them to pause and take a closer look.

This added layer of protection acts as a second pair of eyes at the moment it matters most.

1Password says that a recent survey showed that 89% of Americans have encountered a phishing scam, and 61% have actually been phished.

The new phishing protection feature will be turned on by default for users on individual and family plans, and 1Password Admins can enable this for their employees in Authentication Policies in the 1Password admin console. The protection began rolling out today.

Pricing for 1Password starts at $2.99 per month for an individual user.
