We’ve seen several rumors during the last few months about how large (or small) the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max’s Dynamic Island will be. Now Bloomberg has chimed in, saying the Dynamic Island will indeed be smaller.
Bloomberg’s comments jibe with several other leakers on social media sites who have said Apple will make the Dynamic Island smaller, but won’t completely eliminate it.
In January, a YouTube video from Front Page Tech’s Jon Prosser claimed the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will feature a front camera cutout positioned in the top-left corner of the display, which is also where the Dynamic Island will also be relocated.
Later that same month, Weibo-based leaker Instant Digital shared new details about the upcoming handset. The leaker said early reports from Chinese and Korean sources about the possible relocation of an infrared Face ID component were later mistranslated as a visible left-side hole-punch front camera.
That led to incorrect reports that overlooked how Apple typically evolves its front sensor layout, meaning a minor internal change was misinterpreted as a major external redesign.
Still later that same month, leaker “Ice Universe” claimed on X that the Dynamic Island cutout on the iPhone 18 Pro models will be approximately 35% narrower than it is on the iPhone 17 Pro models, with a width of around 13.5mm (0.5314961 inch), down from around 20.7mm (0.8149606 inch). The leaker also shared a mockup image to demonstrate what that would look like (seen at the top of this article).
For those of you not familiar with the Dynamic Island, it is a pill-shaped interactive area that debuted on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. The area expands and contracts as needed, displaying live activities, while also hiding the front camera and Face ID sensor cutouts.
