Apple to Launch Premium ‘MacBook Ultra’ With Touchscreen, Claims New Report

Apple is planning the launch of an all-new “MacBook Ultra” model later this year, which will boast a touchscreen OLED display, as well as a higher price, according to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman.

Gurman‘s comments came in his latest edition of his “Power On” newsletter. While many have expected that Apple will launch new M6-series MacBook Pro models with touchscreen-capable OLED displays, in a new, thinner design in the fourth quarter of 2026, Gurman indicated that the laptop will instead be an all-new type of MacBook rather “just” than a ‌MacBook Pro‌.

The “MacBook Ultra” will be a new, top-tier Apple laptop that is a step up from the recently announced M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pros, not a replacement.

The price jump on the new “Ultra” MacBook will likely be impressive. As noted by Gurman, when Apple brought OLED displays to the iPhone X in 2017 and the 2024 iPad Pro, the prices jumped around 20%, and he expects a similar price jump is on store for the “Ultra.”

Gurman says that this fits into a broader trend at Apple, where more MacBook models will be made available at more price points. The Cupertino company recently unveiled its MacBook Neo at an unprecedented $599 price point to compete with low-cost Windows and Chromebook devices. A new high-end MacBook with more premium options will help Apple compete in the premium notebook market.

It should be noted that the “MacBook Ultra” moniker isn’t set in stone, and Gurman refers to it as “the touch-screen and OLED high-end MacBook,” while cautioning that Apple “could keep the traditional ‌MacBook Pro‌ name.” Gurman says he expects the new MacBook to launch sometime around the end of the year.
