New Firmware Now Available for Apple’s AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4

A new firmware update (version 8B39) is now available for Apple’s AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4 wireless earbuds. The firmware has a version number of 8B39, up from 8B34 on the ‌AirPods Pro 3‌, 8B28 on the AirPods Pro 2, and 8B21 on the ‌AirPods 4‌.

The company’s support document includes release information about what the new firmware brings to your AirPods.

While there isn’t any way to manually update the firmware of the earbuds, the new software will be installed over the air while the AirPods are connected via Bluetooth to an iOS device.

If you place the AirPods in their case, connect them to a power source, and then pair them to an iPhone or iPad, they should update after a short period of time.

Here’s how to check the firmware version of your AirPods Pro earbuds:

  1. Make sure your AirPods are connected to your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or ‌iPad‌.
  3. Tap “General.”
  4. Tap “About.”
  5. Scroll down to ‌“AirPods,” and tap that.
  6. Read the number next to “Firmware Version.”
