AirPods Max 2 Teardown Reveals They’re ‘Basically the Same’ as Previous Version

Repair site iFixit has shared a teardown of Apple’s new AirPods Max 2 headphones, and it reveals that are few changes inside the new headphone’s shells. The site says the ‌AirPods Max 2‌ are “basically the same” as the original AirPods Max headphones that were released back in 2020.

The site’s examination of the AirPods Max 2‌’s internal components show that when compared to the USB-C AirPods Max show the headphones are identical, and opening them up requires the same steps as the previous generation. The only difference is the updated H2 chips inside.

The AirPods Max 2 appears to share most components with the original model, with the battery, headband, electronics, and buttons appearing to match those of the 2020 and 2024 AirPods Max revisions.

It also appears that Apple hasn’t addresses common complaints with the expensive accessory, including the condensation that builds up in the earcups in humid environments. Apple has yet to provide any parts or repair manuals as yet.

The lack of updates to the ‌AirPods Max 2‌ design mean the headphones are not any more repairable than the prior-generation models. iFixit gave the first version a repairability score of 6/10.
