Apple Mac Shipments Outpaced Overall PC Market in Q1 2026, Growing 9%

Shipments of Apple’s Mac grew 9% during the first quarter of 2026, according to estimated shipment data shared this week by IDC.

Apple’s 9% growth easily outpaced the overall PC market growth of 2.5% thanks to shipments of the M5 MacBook Pro that was released late last year. While Apple has also refreshed the MacBook Air and the higher-end ‌MacBook Pro‌ models, they were just recently released and won’t have any impact on shipment numbers until the next quarter.

Apple shipped 6.2 million Macs shipped, up from 5.7 million in the year-ago quarter. That was good enough for fourth pace among global PC makers – behind only Lenovo, HP, and Dell were the top three PC vendors with 16.5, 12.1, and 10.3 million PCs shipped, respectively. Asus filled out the top five, with 4.8 million units shipped. Most vendors saw an increase in shipments during the quarter, excepting HP, which saw shipments slip by 4.9%.

Apple’s 9.5% share of the global PC market during the quarter was up from 8.9% in the first quarter of 2025.

IDC says sales growth for the quarter were fueled by fear over the rising cost of components (Such as SSDs and RAM chips), as well as new product debuts.

It should be noted that since Apple does not supply specific shipping numbers for its devices, IDC’s information is only an estimate.

Apple’s next earnings report is set to take place on April 30, so we may get some indication then about Mac sales numbers.
