Apple to Launch Two New ‘Ultra’ Devices Over the Next Year

Apple has plans to release two new devices sometime in the next year that will carry the “Ultra” moniker, according to a Macworld report. The report claims that Apple will expand its “Ultra” branding to both a new iPhone and a new Mac.

The report says its sources tell it Apple’s first foldable iPhone will be called the “iPhone Ultra.” The device’s expected price will make it the highest-priced option in the iPhone lineup.

The report’s sources tell it that the first foldable iPhone will not be officially considered a part of the iPhone 18 lineup, much like the iPhone Air is not considered a part of the iPhone 17 lineup. Even though it is expected to be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, the “iPhone Ultra” may hot store shelves a few weeks later and will initially be in scarce availability.

As for the “Ultra” Mac model, Apple is reportedly planning to release a “MacBook Ultra” in late 2026/early 2027. The new laptop is expected to feature an OLED touchscreen, and will be available at a “significantly” higher price point. While the device was originally expected to launch later this year, it may now have been pushed back by several months, thanks to memory supply chain shortages.

Apple already uses the “Ultra” moniker for its Apple Watch Ultra, CarPlay Ultra, and the Apple Watch Ultra. A recent report indicated Apple could also expand the “Ultra” branding to its AirPods lineup.
