Casely Issue Second Recall of MagSafe-Compatible Power Banks Following Death and In-Flight Explosion

iPhone accessory maker Casely has once again issued a recall for its faulty Power Pod wireless power bank, reports The Verge. The reissuing of the recall comes after one of the chargers resulted in the death of a 75-year-old woman, and the explosion of one of them on a plane. Casely is contacting all known purchasers directly.

Name of Product: Casely Wireless Portable Power Banks (Model E33A)
Hazard: The recalled lithium-ion battery in the power banks can overheat and ignite, posing risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards to consumers.
Remedy: Replace
Recall Date: April 16, 2026
Units: About 429,200 (The power banks were previously recalled in April 2025)

Casely initially issued the recall in April 2025 through the Consumer Product Safety Commission. At that time, the company warned that the power banks could overheat and ignite, posing a fire and burn hazard to users. A total of 51 incidents where the battery overheated, expanded, or caught fire, had been reported and there were six minor burn injuries.

Since then, an additional 28 reports have appeared, including two quite serious incidents.

In August 2024, a New Jersey woman was charging her phone using a Casely power bank on her lap, when the charger caught fire and exploded. She suffered second- and third-degree burns, and later died from her injuries.

Then, in February 2026, a 47-year-old female airline passenger was charging her cell phone using the power bank when it caught fire and exploded, resulting in first-degree burns. Airlines have since imposed more restrictive limits on power banks due to incidents like this.

Casely sold 429,200 power banks, which were branded as the Casely “Power Pod” with MagSafe compatibility. The 5,000mAh wireless power banks were available in multiple colors and patterns, and were priced at between $30 and $70. Affected units have an E33A model number and were sold from Amazon.com, the Casely website, and other websites between March 2022 and September 2024.
