New Mac Studio and MacBook Pro With Touch Screen Likely ‘Postponed’

Apple’s next MacBook Pro and Mac Studio models may launch later than expected, due to the global memory chip shortage, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

Gurman’s comments came in the latest edition of his Power On newsletter. While he had previously stated that Apple’s 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with a touch screen would likely launch in late 2026 to early 2027, he now believes that the laptops will be released somewhere near the end of that timeframe, thanks to the RAM shortage.

Gurman also said previously that a new Mac Studio would launch around the middle of 2026, possibly being unveiled at WWDC 2026 in June. However, he now says his sources inside of Apple tell him that the next Mac Studio models will be delayed until around October, thanks to the chip shortage.

Touchscreen support is expected to be a major feature of the refresh of Apple’s high-end MacBook Pro models. They are expected to be powered by M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, boast an OLED display, feature a Dynamic Island, and will likely sport a thinner design. They could carry “Ultra” branding, and macOS 27 is expected to offer a touch-friendly interface.

As for the new Mac Studio lineup, it is expected to be powered by the M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. No major design changes are expected.
