Virginia to be the 15th State to Offer iPhone Apple Wallet Driver’s Licenses and IDs

Earlier this week, we reported that Arkansas became the 14th state on the slowly-growing list of US states that allow their citizens to add their driver’s license or state ID to the Apple Wallet app on the iPhone and Apple Watch. No comes word that another state will soon rollout support for the feature.

Apple’s digital driver’s license feature in the Wallet app is set to expand to Virginia, according to a report from MacRumors. The publication says its sources tell it that Apple is working on making the feature live in the Old Dominion state. Virginia was already on Apple lists of states that would be adding the feature in the near future.

Once available, Virginia residents can add their driver’s license or state ID to the Apple Wallet app by opening it, tapping on the “+” button, selecting “Driver’s License and ID Cards” and following the onscreen instructions. The feature requires an iPhone 8 or later running iOS 16.5 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 4 or later running watchOS 9.5 or later.

Apple added support for digital IDs back in 2022, but since the feature requires states to implement support, the rollout has been rather slow. In 2021, Apple said that it was in “discussions with many more states” and was optimistic that Wallet IDs would be available nationwide in the future.

The following states offer driver’s licenses in the Wallet app:
