Apple Unveils All-New Siri AI, Powered by Next-Generation Apple Intelligence

Generally, we kick off our WWDC 2026 coverage by separately covering each new operating system Apple unveils for their devices. However, this time around, Apple instead concentrated on it all-new Siri AI, and how it will work across its device ecosystem. Let’s take a look at what’s new.

Apple today unveiled an all new Siri AI, powered by “next-generation Apple Intelligence” during the WWDC 2026 keynote. Apple says the new version of Siri is “profoundly more intelligent, knowledgeable, and capable.” If the features they showed off today weren’t simply canned responses like we saw when iOS 18 debuted, it looks like they just might be right.

Siri AI will boast personal context understanding, broad world knowledge, and onscreen awareness, allowing users to find what they need at that point in time. The new Siri will be able to answer questions using the web for most any topic, and can use relevant information drawn from a user’s personal messages, emails, photos, and more.

A dedicated Siri app, also powered by Apple Intelligence, will allow users to revisit conversations from across their devices, will offer expanded Visual Intelligence capabilities, and even offer integrated writing tools. Siri will offer detailed, engaging responses in a natural back-and-forth conversation.

A Deeply Integrated Siri

Apple says users can will be able to ask Siri AI to find a restaurant recommendation a friend messaged them about, find a hotel confirmation number buried in old emails, or bring up photos that include friends and family from a recent trip. The personal context understanding feature will extend to third-party apps that developers integrate with Spotlight.

Siri AI will offer systemwide app actions, meaning users can get things done across multiple apps. Users will be able to draft an email from scratch, edit and share a set of photos, and rely on Siri AI to answer questions related to what their device’s screen is currently displaying.

Siri AI can also use broad world knowledge, getting up-to-date information from the web on virtually any topic. It can assist in informing users about upcoming events, such as when their favorite musician is coming to town. The demo during the keynote showed a user asking about what was supposedly his favorite musician, asking when she was coming to town, then telling Siri to remind him when tickets become available. The demo ended by the user telling Siri to play the artist’s latest hit songs. Users can extend almost any response from Siri into a back and forth conversation and can ask follow-up questions.

While Siri AI can be invoked with the traditional “Hey Siri!” phrase, iPhone users will be able to activate the assistant with the side button, or swipe down from the Dynamic Island to start a conversation. iPad and Mac users will find that Siri AI is integrated into Spotlight, allowing them to search for answers to nearly any query. Siri AI is also integrated into systemwide context menus, allowing users to control-click to ask about images, files, or text on their screen. Apple Vision Pro users won’t be left out, as Sir AI leverages spatial computing with a 3D visualization that users can place anywhere in their space, meaning they can invoke Siri ny simply looking at it and speaking.

iPhone, Apple Watch, CarPlay, and AirPods will allow users to tap into Siri AI on the go. Apple Watch users can start a conversation with Siri directly from their wrist, or a new Smart Stack suggestion can automatically appear to allow users to continue a recent conversation.

Privacy

Siri AI has been rebuilt from the ground up, not only building on Apple Intelligence on-device, but also Apple Foundation Models that run on device and on servers using Private Cloud Compute. Apple says when Private Cloud Computing is being used to handle a user’s requests, their personal data is never stored, nor is the information shared with Apple or any other parties. Apple assures users that Siri “remains the world’s most private digital assistant.”

For devices that support Apple’s most advanced on-device model ever, Siri AI will offer more expressive voices, and will offer improved accuracy in systemwide dictation capabilities. Users will also be able to better customize Siri’s voice to their liking, adjusting the expressiveness and pace of Siri’s voice. Dictation will now automatically handle capitalization, punctuation, and formatting as the user speaks, better understanding speech, allowing users to speak naturally without the fear that Siri won’t misunderstand their intention.

The new dedicated Siri app will allow users to revisit a past conversation or start a new one, as it uses iCloud to privately sync a user’s conversations across their apps. This means a conversation can be started on your Mac, and picked up later on your iPhone, iPad, or other capable device.

Visual Intelligence Improvements

Siri with Visual Intelligence will be available across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro, with new, more powerful image understanding and multimodal capabilities built right into the Camera app, as well as a new Siri mode. This will allow users to get more information about whatever might be right in front of them. Siri mode in the Camera app will offer new actions, including nutritional insights about the plate of food in front of them, or the ability to scan a restaurant bill and select which items the user had, allowing them to split the bill using Apple Cash.

On iPad, Visual Intelligence is integrated right into the screenshot experience. On Mac, users can tap into it with a dedicated keyboard shortcut, select something on their Mac display, and type directly to Siri to get a helpful answer.

Writing Tools

Siri’s integrated Writing Tools are more powerful than ever, allowing users to write with Siri AI virtually anywhere they type. By describing what they need, Siri will be able to generate a draft from scratch to kickstart a writing session. Users can also refine what they’ve already written, by describing the change they want, with Siri quickly updating it.

In the Mail and Messages app, Siri will keep track of how a user communicates with recipients, taking note of the punctuation and tone they typically use. So, if a user drafts an email using Siri and usually makes use of bullet points with the recipient, those will be included in the new draft. Siri can now also provide suggestions to improve the user’s writing. Siri can also automatically proofread systemwide, including in most third-party apps.

The new Siri AI features are available for developer testing starting today through the Apple Developer Program at developer.apple.com, across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and visionOS 27. Siri AI will be available for developer testing in a future watchOS 27 beta.
