Apple has plans to release new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models in spring 2027, reports Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. No external design changes are expected, as Apple will instead focus on internal improvements.
Gurman says the iPad Pro models could be powered by either M6 chips or M7 chips. Apple is expected to debut the M6 chip as soon as this year in an updated 14-inch MacBook Pro model, and plans a first half of 2027 release for the M7 chip.
While Apple would likely prefer to use the M7 in the new iPad Pro models, Apple will use the M6 if the M7 is not ready. While both chips will be built using Apple’s new 2-nanometer process, the M7 has AI optimizations that the M6 doesn’t have.
Other internal improvements could include a new vapor chamber cooling system that could improve performance. That system is currently undergoing testing.
While little is known about an exact release date, Apple is widely expected to debut its iPhone 18e, iPhone 18, and iPhone Air 2 handsets in spring 2027, so the updated iPad Pro lineup could be unveiled alongside those devices.
