Development of Camera-Equipped AirPods Pro ‘Suspended,’ Claims Leaker

Apple has halted the development of its much-rumored camera-equipped AirPods Pro, claims leaker and prototype collector “Kosutami.”

In a post on X the leaker references a June post about the product “case” being “concluded,” the leaker appeared to be updating the previous post to say that the project has been “suspended.”

No other details were provided.

The claim flies in the face of recent reports that the camera-equipped AirPods Pro were nearing completion and were now in an “advanced” testing stage. However, that report also noted that Apple could hold back on the launch of the new AirPods Pro if it wasn’t happy with the quality of the ‌Visual Intelligence‌ features being developed for ‌Siri‌.

The AirPods Pro’s built-in cameras will reportedly feed visual information about the user’s surroundings to Siri and would not be used to take photos or record video. The information would be solely used for AI purposes.

Apple reportedly was planning to debut the camera-equipped AirPods Pro in the first half of 2026, although it held back due to the new, smarter Siri Ai still being in development. While that version is currently undergoing beta testing as a part of the current iOS 27 beta, it won’t be available to the public until the wide release of iOS 27, likely in September.

Apple is said to be expecting strong demand for the new earbuds, and is working to secure enough components for the launch. However, it i also said to be faced with a challenge in acquiring sufficient components, thanks to the industry-wide shortage of memory chips and other components.
