Apple has negotiated lower prices for the OLED displays to be used for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max models, according to South Korea’s DealSite.
The site says its sources tell it that Apple will pay LG and Samsung around $68 per OLED display for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which is definitely a nice discount from the $110 to $120 that it paid those suppliers for each iPhone 17 Pro Max display.
Apple is said to have been aggressive in its push for lower display prices due to the ongoing memory chip shortage and resulting higher RAM prices as a result of companies building grabbing all of the RAM to kit out powerful AI data centers. The skyrocketing prices for RAM chips has lead to increased production costs for Apple’s devices, including its iPhone lineup.
Securing lower costs for some non-memory iPhone components, such as displays, can help Apple to partially offset the rising costs of RAM. However, the iPhone 18 Pro models are still expected to be more expensive than the iPhone 17 Pro models, possibly by $200 to $300. Meaning, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could start at up to $1,399 and $1,499, respectively.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro models this September.
