Apple’s next-generation iPad mini with be powered by the A20 Pro chip, will boast a rearranged front-facing camera, and a new speaker system, leaked code reveals. The presence of such code indicates the release of a new iPad mini is imminent.
The information is buried in Apple’s own code (spotted by MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris) and also includes clear product images of the new iPad mini. While the images of the device only show the front, there are still detectable changes.
We reported earlier today that Perris also discovered an image that shows a new Apple TV 4k unit, indicating we’ll soon see a new version of the popular set-top streaming box. The image, which shows an Apple TV 4k with an unchanged exterior, is specifically for an “Apple TV 4K (4th generation)” model.
The upcoming iPad mini boasts a landscape front-facing camera, making it the last of the iPad lineup to transition to this positioning. A small groove cut out of the top of the display glass, is likelye for a speaker. The volume buttons and power button remain on the top of the device.
Earlier this year, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman said a new iPad mini model sporting an OLED display would be released by October of this year. OLED display panels provide better image quality compared to LCD displays. OLED displays provide more vivid colors, higher contrast ratio, and wider viewing angles, and in many cases can be more power efficient. Since OLED panels individually control each pixel, resulting in more precise color reproduction and deeper blacks compared to LCD.
