No More Downgrading: Apple Stops Signing iOS 26.6.2 and iOS 26.7 Following Release of iOS 27

Apple recently released iOS 27 and as it traditionally does, it has now stopped signing iOS 26.6.2 and iOS 26.7 , making downgrading to those version of iOS no longer possible.

Software that is “signed” can pass a server-side verification check that Apple performs when a new version of iOS is downloaded. If an update fails the verification check, it can’t be installed. This means that once you’ve installed iOS 27, there is no going back.

iOS 27 was released last week. The update brought several new features, including the long-awaited more personal Siri AI.

The iOS 27 software can be downloaded on compatible devices over the air by going to “Settings” -> “General” -> “Software Update.”

While falling back to an older iOS version is often used by users who jailbreak their iPhones, it can also be helpful for users who experience significant bugs after upgrading to the latest version of iOS.

By preventing users from downgrading their devices to older versions of iOS, Apple ensures that the devices are kept up to date with the newest security improvements.
